We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Teacher of German language to join our teaching team of Senior School Voorschoten campus (SSV) at The British School in the Netherlands.

This role is part-time (0.8 FTE) and a temporary maternity cover from 22 August 2025 to 31 December 2025.

About the BSN:

The British School in the Netherlands is arranged into four separate campuses. The Senior School Voorschoten is a large, modern and very well-equipped campus in Voorschoten, which serves international students as well as local students from the surrounding area.

Our senior school is situated in the town of Voorschoten, between the Hague and Leiden with excellent public transport, motorway and bicycle connections from the surrounding areas - 10 minutes by train to the centre of the Hague. This is an exciting time to join one of the oldest British International schools in Europe as we continue to cement our reputation both locally and globally. We largely follow the British National Curriculum at KS3 and KS4 and offer multiple post-16 academic pathways (including IB, A-Level and BTEC) serving nearly 900 students of 80 different nationalities. The Role:

  • Teach IB Diploma German Language B courses at Standard and Higher levels.

  • Deliver German A Level courses, including preparation for written and oral examinations.

  • Enhance cultural awareness of the German-speaking world among students and staff.

  • Plan engaging lessons, prepare homework, and develop interactive teaching materials.

  • Record and monitor student progress based on specified learning targets.

  • Prepare students for oral assessments and written work in authentic German styles.

  • Participate in parent-teacher evenings, staff meetings, and professional workshops.

  • Complete reports in line with the school’s reporting schedule.

The Candidate:

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Fluency in German (native or near-native level).

  • A recognised teaching qualification.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Strong ability to create engaging, interactive, and culturally relevant teaching materials.

  • Adaptability to teach students across varying ages and language abilities.

  • Enthusiastic about fostering a love for the German language and culture.

Desirable Experience:

  • Familiarity with the English National Curriculum, including GCSE, A-Level, and IB examinations.

  • Previous experience teaching in an international school setting

About the Modern Foreign Languages Faculty at SSV:
