Head of Geography
We are seeking an inspirational Head of Geography to lead and manage our team of committed dynamic and professional team of teachers on a full-time basis at Senior School Voorschoten.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, fully qualified teacher with British curriculum experience to take the next step in their leadership journey.
Start date: August 2025
The British School in the Netherlands is arranged into four separate campuses. The Senior School Voorschoten (SSV) is a large, modern and very well-equipped campus in Voorschoten, which serves international students as well as local students from the surrounding area.
Our senior school is situated in the town of Voorschoten, between the Hague and Leiden with excellent public transport, motorway and bicycle connections from the surrounding areas - 10 minutes by train to the centre of the Hague. This is an exciting time to join one of the oldest British International schools in Europe as we continue to cement our reputation both locally and globally. We largely follow the British National Curriculum at KS3 and KS4 and offer multiple post-16 academic pathways (including IB, A-Level and BTEC) serving nearly 900 students of 80 different nationalities. Our student body is motivated to succeed, our families are hugely supportive, and our colleagues are welcoming, innovative and of the highest calibre. Our students’ destinations vary greatly, including Oxford, Cambridge and LSE as well as the leading Universities in the Netherlands and globally.
The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team of passionate educators and teach highly motivated students in an engaging, well-resourced department. The subject has increased in popularity and features a contemporary and modern curriculum, enriched by extensive fieldwork opportunities that add to the breadth of experience for our students.
Geography is taken by all students as a foundation subject in Key Stage 3 and is a popular choice at GCSE, A Level, and IB, with a strong track record of academic excellence. Many Sixth Form students complete Extended Essays in Geography, reflecting the subject’s significance in our curriculum.
This post will be equally attractive to applicants with appropriate experience wishing to take their first steps in middle leadership and those who are already able to demonstrate leadership in their current post.

The Netherlands is one of the most welcoming of all EU member countries to professionals working abroad and is a very pleasant country in which to live and work. The Netherlands regularly tops surveys on child wellbeing.
The working language of The BSN is English. The Dutch are excellent linguists and English is widely spoken to a high standard by around 70% of the population.
Transport services and connections are excellent - our campuses are located in The Hague, just 30 or so minutes from Amsterdam Schiphol airport, or in the other direction, from the Hoek of Holland ferry terminal.
